Located off the coast of Mactan and Cebu, Nalusuan is a tiny island paradise set in a marine sanctuary.

Owned privately by a family of several brothers the island of Nalusuan is a quiet and lush private resort. The guesthouses rest on stilts over the tranquil ocean, each with it’s own bedroom, bathroom and balcony overlooking the sea. The views are amazing in all directions as the nearest islands are all a boat ride away and landmarks like the Chocolate Hills can be seen in the far distance.

A Private Island in the Philippines

Guests arrive at the Mactan airport and must be ferried to the island by boat. The petite island comes into view while the sun dances over the water. Pulling up to the ever-reaching dock guests are warmly greeted by friendly faced locals. Luscious trees dot the island and white sand covers the surface. The stilt houses decorate the right edge of Nalusuan and a collection of small huts for the locals that live on the island blend into the trees on the far left. In between there is ample ground to sprawl on; a mini volleyball court; the restaurant, bar and guest services hut; a dive shop and the owning family’s home.

Though the island is visited most days during lunch hour by tours of ‘island hoppers’ the mornings, evenings and nights are peaceful and soothing. Guests may even find themselves the only patrons staying on Nalusuan, a truly secluded destination. The pristine island is eco-tourist friendly and runs on solar power.

Sightseeing and Eco-Tourist Adventures

The staff of Nalusuan go out of their way to make guests completely comfortable and go to the greatest lengths to ensure that patrons have a wonderful visit. Fresh seafood caught in the morning is brought in for lunch, a table will be brought out to the sandbar for breakfast and the staff even build huge beach fires at night. All of the mouth-watering meals are cooked fresh upon ordering and all of the drinks are served ice cold.

When the tide goes out from the little island there is a sandbar that extends out from the sea wall, which makes for a very interesting morning experience walking and exploring where in a few hours there can be up to several feet of water. The position of the island makes the water very calm for sitting in the shallows or swimming in the lapping ripples not big enough to call waves. Being in a marine sanctuary there are tropical fish and sea creatures that visit the waters around Nalusuan every day. Adventurous guests can book scuba trips for the Olango Reef side of the island or borrow snorkeling equipment and swim a great circle around the land.

Guests may have a hard time deciding to leave the island but boat trips and day tours can be organized to visit the nearby islands. Mactan and Cebu are major urban areas where there is much shopping and historical exploring to be had. A monument to local hero Lapu-Lapu and Fort San Pedro are tourist attractions and there are streets lined with vendors offering beautiful hand made gifts. When the day excursion is done there will be more jovial locals to take guests back to Nalusuan.
