Palawan is one of the major travel destinations in the Philippines. Thousands of tourists long to visit this area of the Philippine archipelago year after year. Its rich marine life, lush green mountains and rich flora and fauna speak of a paradise unlike any other. It beckons every traveler to experience its amazing beauty. For tourists who are still unsure of what they could expect in Palawan, here are five reasons why they should go to this island paradise.

Palawan Dugong

The Palawan dugong is one of the many attractions in Palawan. Also internationally known as the sea-cow or pig of the sea (baboy-dagat) by Filipinos, the dugong is a large aquatic mammal that is a regular in the waters of Palawan. This mammal appalls visitors with its gigantic size and mermaid-like appearance. Although huge, the dugong is known to be a gentle marine creature, feeding only on seaweeds and sea grasses. Many tourists take a boat ride along the crystal clear waters of Palawan to see this amazing creature.

Palawan Spectacular White Sand Beaches

Spectacular white sand beaches and crystal clear waters seem to be a prerequisite for a good holiday experience. Palawan has all these. Palawan has several beaches and resorts that boast of white powdery sand and shining crystal waters. Tourists will love to take a dip in the relaxing waters of the Palawan beaches. Apart from this, great adventure also await visitors as they can always indulge in outdoor activities and water sports such as kayaking, snorkelling, diving and many more. Visitors may also go island hopping or go trekking.

The Amazing Natural Scenery of Palawan

For tourists who love nature, there is always something in Palawan that will fill their craving to get close to nature and witness before their very eyes the works of nature. Palawan is home to the Tabon Caves, which are known to be the oldest site of habitation in entire Southeast Asia. It is also home to St. Paul's Subterranean National Park, where an underground river is located. This underground river is a spectacular sight of its own. It stretches about eight kilometers and opens up into a lagoon, which sends its waters down into the vast basin of the South China Sea. Aside from the underground river, tourists will also enjoy the park's wooden trails which lead to a forest. Visitors are treated to a diverse and rich species of flora and fauna in this forest.

Palawan Marine Reserve and Wildlife Sanctuary

Palawan has thousands of hectares dedicated for marine preserve and wildlife sanctuary. Visitors may see a number of amazing indigenous animal species there as well as animals that may also be seen in the African jungle. Visitors may also be able to see giraffes, gazelles, and zebras. Those who desire to see the diverse marine life in Palawan may also be able to have first hand experience with seacows, seaturtles, and other aquatic animals.

El Nido Soup

One of the strongest tourist attractions in the island of Palawan is El Nido. El Nido is known for its amazing splendor and inspiring beauty. Moreover, it is known for its most famous delicacy, the El Nido soup. The El Nido soup is a soup that uses bird nests as its main ingredients. This soup is known by tourists to be of high quality and most delectable taste. The bird nests where the soup is made from is sourced from the caves inhabited by the balinsasayaw birds. The means of obtaining these bird nests are in themselves interesting.
